Safepacker for CCW « Thread Started on Jul 11, 2006, 9:14am »
The more I use my Safepacker the more impressed I am with it. I've taken it into meetings with clients, into boardrooms, carried in hand when a holster wasn't practical on the street (minus the flashlight).
Through the use of Velcro I've adapted it to use in the car off the seatbelt (as shown on the website http://thewilderness.com/catalog/product....6914fc1549044e) I took a strip of 2 inch industrial Velcro hook that runs from the center console to the front passenger seat. By adding the loop section on the back I can now just lay the Safepacker on the seat. It offers me a quicker draw, is easily covered with papers or a jacket, and is very secure in a fast moving vehicle while turning and braking.
It gets an A+ rating from me. What at first thought I believed it might be used only on occasion, it now goes just about everywhere I do, even when I'm carrying another gun in a holster. It easily holds everything from my S&W M49 to my CZ97B w/extra magazine.
I've yet to have anyone even ask about it. It looks like an Ipod case, Dayplanner, CD holder, etc,. It is well made, doesn't print, and can be adapted easily to many situations.
This is one of those rare products that is more than I hoped for. For less than $60.00, it's well worth the money—and there's not many products I can say that about.
This is the Safepacker. Government Model
My CZ97B w/one magazine. It completely hides inside with the magazine on the bottom inside its own stitched pouch.
I've added a loop section of velcro to the back of the Safepacker and a strip of hook velcro to the console inside the car. The flashlight on the right is my old Kel-lite and I've added the titanium Streamlight to the Safepacker.
Here's the whole package, very secure.
Easy to undo the top flap. Depending on where I am, I often keep the top flap as you see here, already opened, with the gun ready to "present" as necessary.

Good idea for car carry.
I used some velcro with a sticky back on my console that allows a cheaper nylon holster to stick to it and stay in place. It is really easy to reach from either seat if my wife is riding with me. If I have to leave the pistol in the car it's easy to put in the glove box and lock it.

Those things seem like a great idea, for semi autos. I did buy one for my L-Frame 3" revolver, the size they recommended; unfortunately, however, it didn't fit well... had to return it. For driving, using the safety belt as recommended, meets the "conceal carry" definition and is readily available... and yes, you can wear it on your belt.

What I wrote above is only for car carry. I didn't like the way that Wilderness recommends on their website for car use. They recommend threading the seatbelt through the back strap and having it above where the seatbelt buckles. I found in my cars (Honda) that it didn't work too well so I can up with another way to keep it close in the car.
It's easy then to just pull the Safepacker off the velcro strap in the car and then take with me.
When I'm using it for concealed work in public (when a holster wouldn't work), I remove the flashlight. Then I either carry it like a Dayplanner (book carry) or for a more secure hold, I put my left hand through the top edge strap and cinch it down. This would keep the Safepacker from being snatched unless they want to take me with it.
Then, by raising my left hand, I can undo the tab closure, reach inside and get the gun with my right,
I haven't tried wearing it as it would be inappropriate for me and would draw comments, but depending on the person and circumstances it certainly would work.
There are several ways to "carry" the Safepacker, and with a little thought it is a great option.

I have two - implying that I like it enough to buy a second. I use them to keep a SIG 239 in each car. I prefer flat semi's to revolvers in this type. I like the J-frames better in the Day Planner type.
