Thanks for the assist fellows...yeah she's a beaut...
She is a 1975 model. I like the fact that there is no cross bolt safety, just more BS to remember. Half cock worked just fine for over 100 years so why argue with a good thing. I took the sight and rings off and after I save up a few bucks, I will mount either a Marble’s or Lyman #2 tang sight on her.
I have a feeling that this wont be the last lever-gun in my household…don’t tell Mrs. G though.

They fished my daddy out of Pearl Harbor, pulled a piece of shrapnel from his head, patched him up and sent him back out to the fleet. He went on to have 7 1/2 ships sank from beneath his feet.
Without shame, I wept at 7:55 a.m. this morning for the men and women that died that fateful hour 68 years ago.

We remodeled the home 2.5 years ago. Removed all the 40 yr old drywall and insulation (or lack of) off to run new electrical wires, internet cables and coax. We installed Mylar-Foam-Mylar (db19/R14) before installing regular fiberglass insulation. By the end of the day the Mrs was getting goofy and made the following remark, "staple gun $12, Mylar insulation $1200, the CIA not being able to read my mind....Priceless!" She may not have been to far off the mark.

Thanks for the pics and the remembrance. I was just 2 yrs old. God bless the greatest generation. I, too, am afraid for our Country in this day and age. So many seem to not give a whit for patriotism and feel no duty or debt to our Country at all. God bless all our Military who DO care.
I don't blame the far left anymore than I blame a fish for swimming; it's what they do. I blame the mushy, middle ground voters who hide behind an uninformed mind by claiming an open one.

Those sure are nice to look at and shoot. I have one as well. I paid $40 and traded a Stevens 311 20 gauge shotgun for mine. That was a long time ago. i have found mine to be very accurate with heavy bullet loads. Another bonus is it's not picky about powder choice either. I hope yours proves to be a good one as well. They are one slick lever action rifle. Congratulations.

We couldn't get Zach into any school in anyplace else. He has special needs and when you have Asbergers with ADHD it makes for quite a handfull to say the least.
He is now going to the prestigious (not being sarcastic either its world renowned in a positive way for doing lots of work in the middle east)
Al Noor Children's Center For Special Needs at the discount rate of 1/4 the cost.
(its a not for profit in the middle east that actually puts the money where its mouth is, not into "vests" for the youth.
Tori and the other 2 boys are now going to a very good us based education center.
Its a shorter drive to work for me 40-50 min vs 115-130, less distance and most importantly I do NOT have to drive 100mph daily to work just to make it there.
I can make a nice relaxed drive on a 8 lane highway, set the cruise and go no worries.
Plus I can't beat the price now that the global financial crisis is on, why not take advantage?
Great photos of a tragic time. The good news was that they missed the carriers. A little bit of luck for the USA. Maybe more than luck.. God bless America.
IRH
From what I've read the Carrier Captains intentionally stayed away from Pearl Harbor because they were afraid of this very thing. Even when they did come in they did so 1 at a time. Remember, unlike the heavily armed Cruisers and Battleships they couldn't put up much of a fight and were very vulnerable. (much more so than today) Those Captains were much more wary of losing their ships. (thank God for that) If the Carriers were hit that day too the South Pacific would have fallen into Japanese hands quite easily. The Japanese also didn't count on the Americans pumping out Iowa Class Battleships and Fletcher-class destroyers so quickly. Fortunately they underestimated the American will-power not to lose.
Sadly, I feel today would be a different story. Far too many Americans are selfish and self-centered. They would not sacrifice for the greater good like the Americans of The Greatest Generation!

Wow what luxury! Bill what made you move into the city? The pictures are great as I have never seen them before. The city looks very modern and clean as well. Tell us more when you can.
... not, they don't Paul, but they can count - ... once they know that 90% of their constituents do not agree with their shenanigans, and that we are mad as hell, they might reverse course - I think we are already seeing this phenomenon in Congress. Lets keep the pressure on, it is not costing us a penny, and may pay off big time.

Aircraft ******** 188 Aircraft destroyed (92 USN and 92 U.S. Army Air Corps.) USA Declaration of War on Japan
After receiving the news about the Pearl Harbor attack, Roosevelt met with his military advisers and, after that, wrote a first draft of the declaration of war on Japan request to the Congress.
After the first draft, the President made some handwritten changes and created a final version of the speech. One of the most famous phrases of the speech, a date which will live in infamy, wasn't in the first draft; it was a date which will live in world history.
On December 8, 1941, the day after Japanese forces attacked the American military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Franklin Roosevelt addressed Congress with one of the most famous speeches to Congress in history and asked for a Declaration of War with Japan.
At 12:30 pm, Roosevelt started the speech.
«Mr. Vice President, and Mr. Speaker, and Members of the Senate, of the House of Representatives:
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that Nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to the Secretary of State a form reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hit of war or armed attack.
It will be recorded, that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government had deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya. Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong. Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam. Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands. Last night the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our Nation.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again. Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounded determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December seventh, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire.
Franklin D. Roosevelt, The White House December 8th, 1941»
The Senate and House of Representatives approved the war declaration almost unanimously - the pacifist Congresswoman Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first member of Congress to vote no on both the declaration of war on Germany during World War I and the declaration of war on Japan. Finally, at 4pm, Roosevelt signed the declaration of war on Japan.
«Joint Resolution declaring that a state of war exists between the Imperial Government of Japan and the Government and the people of the United States and making provisions to prosecute the same.
Whereas the Imperial Government of Japan has committed unprovoked acts of war against the Government and the people of the United States of America:
Therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the state of war between the United States and the Imperial Government of Japan which has thus been thrust upon the United States is hereby formally declared; and the President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Imperial Government of Japan; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.
Approved, December 8, 1941, 4:10 p.m. E.S.T.»
Three days later, December 11, Japan's allies, Germany and Italy, both declared war on the United States. The U.S. Congress responded immediately by declaring war on them.

OK, you people were expecting something fancy and expensive aye? Well you all should know old Ken by now...I am a simple (minded) man. I love lever actions and feel they're the quintessential American rifle. They're also great all-around rifles for anyone to own...
I just picked up a beautiful Marlin 336 in .30-30 that my buddy Mikey found on a local traders forum.
It is in excellent shape and I think roughly 15 years old. I don't know how to date Marlin rifles...
The scope (which is coming off) is a nice Simmons 4X32 8-Point scope with those darned see-through mounts. If I ever put the scope back on those mounts are history.
About the only thing wrong is the front sight hood is missing...not bad aye?

We are all in agreement with the sentiments expressed here - now, check out my posts on GOA Email Alerts, the lack of responses indicates to me that we are just talking to each other... how about bombard our Reps in Congress, and tell them, continuously and repeatedly, how we feel... If we don't talk, no one we hear us.

My uncle was at Pearl Harbor that day. He had just eaten breakfast and was off duty at the time when the bombing started. He ran down to the docks and jumped on the first ship he could see that had a empty gun. Another sailor showed up soon after and was feeding the ammo for him. He said he shot that 50 cal until the barrel was glowing red and the gun eventually seized. He said it seemed to do no good, they just kept on coming.
Soon after that day my father at age 15 lied about his age and also joined the Navy and fought in the South Pacific. Even though they are both gone now and so are most of the others who saved the free world we can NEVER forget what they did for us all... They have the title of "The Greatest Generation" and I truly think they were. (and to think up until a few years ago there wasn't even a monument to them in Washington) God Bless them all, we owe them a dept of gratitude that can never be repaid.

I'm tired of this assault on anything American or Christian.
Veterans can't fly the flag. WWI monuments in the desert have to be taken down even though no one sees it unless they want to. Children in public schools can't sing Christmas songs. God is a dirty word and respect is almost non-existent. What in the world is happening in this country? Why won't the voters wake up and dump the idiots who make these laws up?
